LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior attacker Leslie Bogart's (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) nine points propelled ninth-ranked Washington and Lee to its school-record-tying 12th consecutive win, 14-9, over Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at the Liberty Hall Fields. The Generals' 12 straight wins equals the standard set by the 1992 squad.
W&L (12-1, 8-0) sped out to a 7-2 lead at the 22:24 mark behind three goals from senior attacker Laura Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster). However, the Marlins cut their deficit to 7-4 at the half on freshman attacker Laura Wallace's (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) second first-stanza tally.
The Generals started the second half by upping their lead to 8-4, but sophomore attacker Megan Parris' (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) two goals keyed a 4-0 Marlins run that evened the score with less than 15 minutes to play. Then, after the two teams traded goals making it 9-9, Bogart had two goals and one assist over the final four minutes to help W&L secure the five-goal victory.
Bogart accounted for her nine points on four goals and five assists and junior midfielder Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) chipped in with four goals and one assist. Junior netminder Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) turned back eight shots, while sophomore midfielder Kitt Murphy (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's) coralled five draw controls and caused five turnovers.
The Marlins were led by Wallace's three goals and one assist. Parris finished with three goals. In goal, junior Margie Baker (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) registered 14 saves.
W&L will host a first-round ODAC Tournament game on Wednesday at 4:00 pm against either Bridgewater, Hollins or Sweet Briar.
