SALEM, Va. -- Ninth-ranked Washington and Lee raced out to a 10-4 halftime lead and cruised to a 14-10 win over Roanoke in women's lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon in Salem, Va. The win assured W&L of the top seed and the opportunity to host the ODAC Tournament semifinals and final next week.

Leading the Maroons 3-1, W&L (11-1, 7-0) produced a 5-0 spurt midway through the opening period to assume a commanding 8-1 lead. Junior midfielder Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) scored a pair of goals during the run and finished with three goals on the game.

The Generals, who won their 11th straight game, were led by junior midfielder Kelly Taffe's (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) three goals and two assists. Senior attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) notched four assists, while sophomore midfielder Kristen Brown (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) added a pair of goals. Junior Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) stopped 11 shots in goal.

Roanoke (9-5, 6-2) was paced by sophomore midfielder Emily Hearn's (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) four-goal, one-assist effort. Sophomore attacker Steph Calabrese (Darien, Conn./Darien) added one goal and three assists. Senior Lisa Humphries (Glasgow, Va./Rockbridge County) made seven stops in net for the Maroons.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Virginia Wesleyan for a 1:00 pm contest. A win over the Marlins would tie the program record for consecutive victories.
