WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Junior midfielder Kelly Taffe's (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) eight-point afternoon led the Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to its second win in as many days, 14-8, over Catholic on Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C.
Taffe opened the scoring just 38 seconds into the contest by scoring off a feed from sophomore midfielder Kristen Brown (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville). However, the Cardinals recorded four of the game's next five tallies to take a 4-2 lead at the 9:45 mark.
Catholic's Marisa Schaffer then ended the first-half scoring with 30 seconds left on the clock by recording her third goal, giving the Cardinals a 7-6 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Generals blitzed CUA with eight goals while allowing just one. Junior midfielder Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) started the scoring at 31:09 and freshman midfielder Katharine Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) wrapped it up with five seconds remaining.
Taffe's seven goals and one assist paced the Generals (7-1), who won their seventh consecutive game. Lester, senior attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) and sophomore midfielder Natalya Hoobchaak (Barrington, Ill./Loyola Academy) each finished with two points apiece.
Schaffer's three goals were a team-high for Catholic. Both Kristen Wisniewski and Ali Jarden totaled two points.
In goal, junior Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) recorded 11 saves for the Generals. Counterpart Sarah McGrath finished with seven stops.
W&L will be in action again on Wednesday when it hosts Bridgewater for a 4:00 pm contest.
