LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Tenth-ranked Washington and Lee scored the game's first eight goals in the opening nine minutes for a 23-7 win over Lynchburg in ODAC women's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon in Lynchburg, Va.
Six different W&L players found the net on multiple occasions, led by junior midfielder Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle), who scored six goals and assisted on two others. Senior attacker Laura Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) tallied five goals and three assists, while freshman midfielder Katharine Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) notched four goals. Junior midfielder Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and sophomore midfielder Kitt Murphy (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's) added two goals and two assists each.
Defensively, W&L (5-1, 3-0) was led by junior goalie Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington), who tallied eight saves between the pipes.
Lynchburg (4-3, 2-3) was paced by sophomore attacker Ali Ballantyne's four goals. Junior Sarah Kirby made eight saves in goal.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Friday as it travels to Goucher for a 4:30 pm contest.
