HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Senior shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) banged out the 165th hit of his career, surpassing Matt Kozora '02 as Washington and Lee's all-time hits leader in the second game of a doubleheader at Eastern Mennonite on Saturday. W&L (14-2, 8-1 ODAC) upped its school-record winning streak to 12 by defeating the Royals, 7-1, in the first game and 15-2 in the nightcap.
Hanson was 5-for-9 on the day with three RBI and four runs, and broke the record with an RBI single in the sixth inning of the second game.
In Game 1, senior centerfielder Bobby Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook), junior catcher Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) and sophomore third baseman Adam Bullock (Alexandria, Va./Gonzaga) each had two hits to lead W&L.
Junior pitcher Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) improved to 4-1 on the season with a complete-game victory. He recorded 11 strikeouts and held the Royals to one run on six hits and no walks in seven innings of work.
Leading 5-2 in the second game, the Generals pushed 10 runs across in the final four innings to coast to the win. Hanson, Mulhern and junior pitcher Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett) keyed the offense with four hits apiece. Sophomore catcher Zach Bausch (Vienna, Va./McLean) was 2-for-5 with four RBI, while junior second baseman Austin Allain (Weston, Mass./Weston) went 3-for-6 with three RBI.
Kagey picked up the win, improving to 4-1 on the season after alloting the Royals (5-16-1, 1-6 ODAC) two runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks. He whiffed five.
On the afternoon, EMU was led by centerfielder Jeremy Auker, who was 3-for-8, and outfielder Chris Severs, who was 3-for-6. Ryan Martin gave up five runs on five hits in the first game to fall to 0-5 on the season. Thomas Frazier fell to 2-4 on the season after W&L touched him for 17 hits and 11 runs in 6 2/3 innings.
The Generals are in action again on Tuesday when they travel to Bridgewater for a 3:00 pm contest.
