LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior goalie Jen Chumley (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) made 15 saves as fifth-ranked St. Mary's defeated 14th-ranked Washington and Lee, 8-4, in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Sunday at the W&L Turf Field.

The Seahawks (2-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind goals from freshman attacker Rebecca Christofferson (Vienna, Va./James Madison), sophomore attacker Karli Libertini (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) and junior midfielder Stacy Mann (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney). W&L junior midfielder Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) put home the Generals' lone first-half goal when she found the back of the net at the 29:06 mark.

Freshman attacker Amanda Strickler's (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) goal, sandwiched between two tallies by freshman midfielder Katharine Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends), evened the game at 4-4 with 17:39 remaining.

However, the Seahawks responded with four unanswered goals for the final margin.

St. Mary's was led by junior attacker Kate Story (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron), who notched two goals and one assist. Freshman midfielder Carol Schmoeller (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) had a goal and two helpers while Allyson Sarigianis (Joppa, Md./John Carroll) added a goal and an assist.

Lester's two goals paced the Generals' (0-1) offense as Taffe and Strickler were the only others to find the back of the cage. In goal, junior Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) logged all 60 minutes, making nine saves.

For the game, W&L held a 28-20 edge in shots.

W&L is in action again on Tuesday when it travels to Guilford for a 4:00 pm contest.
