ASHLAND, Va. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team improved to 11-2 overall, 5-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with a doubleheader sweep of Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon. The Generals won the opener 17-4 then took the nightcap, 4-3.
In game one, the Generals jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and cruised to the win. Senior centerfielder Bobby Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) led the way by going 4-for-5 at the plate with a school-record four doubles and five RBI. Senior shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) also went 4-for-5 with four runs scored. Junior rightfielder Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Uniontown) and junior second baseman Austin Allain (Weston, Mass./Weston) both homered to help W&L's cause.
Junior lefthander Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) threw five innings of five-hit ball to up his record to 3-1 on the season.
In the second game, W&L jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings and held on for a 4-3 win. Senior first baseman Brian Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomore leftfielder Warren Hunter (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) went 2-for-4, while Hanson was 2-for-5.
Junior righthander Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett) went six innings to improve to 3-1 on the season. Mulhern tossed the final three innings, striking out the side in the ninth inning for his first save of the season.
With the losses, Randolph-Macon fell to 3-5 overall, 1-3 in the ODAC.
Washington and Lee will return to action on Wednesday as it hosts Bridgewater for a single game beginning at 3:00 pm.
