GREENSBORO, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team used a pair of first-half goals to outpace Guilford, 2-1, in ODAC action on Tuesday afternoon.
Senior forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./Potomac) opened the scoring for the Generals (12-1-1, 9-1) at 15:04, when she buried a pass from freshman forward Anne Wiltshire (Richmond, Va./Collegiate). Junior defender Kelley Zagol (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) pushed the visitors' lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal 35 seconds before the halftime break.
The Quakers got on the board at 55:42 thanks to a goal from junior forward Flo Lance, but W&L junior keeper Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) remained stalwart in the goal with four saves in the second half and five on the day to quell Guilford's comeback bid.
Sophomore goalie Danielle Brisotti made one stop for the Quakers (9-8, 6-4).
Guilford held a narrow 10-8 advantage in shots, while both teams took three corner kicks.
The Generals wrap up their regular season on Saturday, when they travel to Roanoke. Game time is 12:00.
