W&L Women's Lacrosse Defeats Guilford, 22-0

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 13th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team tallied 16 first half goals and held Guilford without a shot for the entire game in cruising to a 22-0 victory on the Liberty Hall Fields on Saturday afternoon.

The Generals (2-1, 2-0 ODAC) assumed an 8-0 lead midway through the first half as senior attacker Emily Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal) and sophomore midfielders Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Maur) and Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) each registered two goals apiece. Junior attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) tallied five assists on the Generals first eight goals. Bogart also scored W&L's fifth goal of the game.

W&L scored eight more goals in the final 12 minutes of the first half as freshman midfielder Erin Rathbone (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) tallied two goals. Sophomore midfielder Tate Hoeffel (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) added one goal and two assists during the span.

The Generals, who recorded their fifth shutout in school history, tacked on six goals in the second half as six different players scored.

Wheeler finished the game with four goals, while Taffe recorded four goals and one assist. Hoeffel chipped in with a goal and three assists, Bogart added a goal and five assists, while Owens, Rathbone and senior midfielder Courtenay Fisher (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) added two goals apiece. Junior attacker Laura Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) added one goal and two assists.

Guilford (0-5, 0-2 ODAC) freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Kennedy (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) made 13 saves.

The Generals return to action when they host Nazareth at 4:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon.
