FARMVILLE, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore pitchers Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) and Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett) combined to pitch 11 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits as the Generals swept two games at Hampden-Sydney on Saturday afternoon.
Dean moved to 3-0 on the season as the Generals (8-4, 3-1) took game one, 6-2. In the second contest, Kagey moved to 2-2 as he pitched six innings as the Generals prevailed, 2-1. Junior Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) earned saves in both games.
In the opener, neither team managed to score until W&L plated three runs in the fifth on RBI from junior first baseman Brian Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkely Prep), senior catcher Todd Gosselink (Austin, Texas/St. Stephens) and sophomore second baseman Austin Allain (Weston, Mass./Weston). After the Tigers responded with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, W&L broke the game open with three runs in the seventh keyed by a two-run, two-out double from junior centerfielder Bobby Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook).
In game two, Hampden-Sydney (4-5, 0-3) assumed a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly from Casey Eanes in the second inning. The Generals were held scoreless until the fifth when Littlehale and senior third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) each drove in one run.
For the afternoon, Kozora finished 4-for-7, while Littlehale drove in three runs.
The Generals return to action when they host Mary Washington at 3:00 pm on Tuesday afternoon.
