W&L Baseball Splits With Randolph-Macon

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore pitcher Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett) fired a complete-game shutout to lead the Generals to a 5-0 victory over Randolph-Macon is game two of an ODAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Smith Field. Kagey finished the game allowing three hits, while walking four and striking out seven. The Yellow Jackets prevailed in game one, 5-2.

In game two, the Generals assumed a 3-0 lead in the third inning as junior shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) drove in a run with a triple and junior centerfielder Bobby Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill/Willowbrook) drove Hanson home with a single. Littlehale would later come around to score on a wild pitch.

The Generals (9-5, 4-2) tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth on a fourth-inning sacrifice fly from Hanson and fifth-inning double by sophomore leftfielder Paul Sibley (St. Petersburg, Fla./Shorecrest Prep).

In the opener, Yellow Jacket (5-6, 1-3) junior Doug McCray (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Godwin) hurled a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

McCray was aided by four Randolph-Macon tallies in the second inning as senior leftfielder Davy Durham (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County) and junior first baseman Keith Harvey (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) tallied two-out RBI.

The Generals managed to cut their deficit to 4-2 on an RBI double from Littlehale in the third and an RBI double from Sibley in the fourth. However, that would be as close as W&L would get as the Yellow Jackets tacked on an insurance run in the seventh.

Littlehale led the Generals on the afternoon, going a combined 4-for-8 with two runs batted in.

W&L returns to action when it hosts West Virginia Tech for a 12:00 pm doubleheader tomorrow afternoon.
