ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team fell to 0-2 on the season with an 8-2 loss at Emory (Ga.) University on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles (2-1) started the scoring in the third inning on a two-run double by freshman outfielder Bryan Langbord after W&L sophomore pitcher Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett) walked the first two batters of the inning.
Emory pushed its lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning on an RBI single by senior outfielder Tim Hobbs and an RBI double by junior first baseman Tommy Lee, who later scored on an error by W&L second baseman Austin Allain (Weston, Mass./Weston).
The Generals responded in the eighth inning as sophomore catcher Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) singled home junior shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) and sophomore outfielder Paul Sibley (St. Petersburg, Fla./Shorecrest Prep).
Emory added three insurance runs in the bottom half of the eighth on a two-run single by freshman outfielder Aaron Rosdale.
The Generals comitted three errors and were limited to just four hits in the contest.
Senior pitcher Ethan Soloman picked up his first win of the season for Emory, allowing just one hit in six innings of work. Kagey (0-1) picked up the loss for the Generals, allowing seven hits and four earned runs in six innings of work.
Washington and Lee will be in action again on Thursday as it takes on Oglethorpe University for the second time in four days. Game time is set for 3:30 pm.
