EMORY, Va. – Washington and Lee sophomore forward Hamill Jones (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) scored a career-high 32 points as he set a school record by making 15-of-16 shots from the floor during Wednesday evening's 76-75 loss at Emory & Henry.
Jones' performance broke the old mark set on Feb. 11, 1982, when Frank Eppes hit 10-of-11 shots during a 78-61 victory over Shenandoah.
W&L claimed a 40-34 advantage at halftime, as Jones tallied eight of the final 12 points for the Generals in the first half.
The Generals extended their halftime advantage to as many as 10 points in the second half and held a 63-55 lead with 8:49 to play in the game. However, the Wasps closed the game on a 21-12 run, as W&L was held to four points in the final 5:13. E&H forward Cortez Watson split a pair of free throws with 1:14 left to put the Wasps up by one point at 76-75. It proved to be the game-winner.
Junior guard Toussaint Crawford (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) tied his season-high with 16 points. Junior guard John Warren (Greenville, S.C./Wade Hampton) and freshman center Mark Franceski (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) each tallied nine points in the losing cause.
The 75 points marked a season-high for the Generals.
Emory & Henry (10-7, 4-6 ODAC) was paced by Kenny Carver who notched 14 points. Paul Russo and Justin Call also recorded double figures with 12 points apiece.
The Generals (4-13, 2-10 ODAC) return to action on Saturday when they host Roanoke at 7:00 pm.
