W&L Breezes Past Bridgewater, 17-7

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman midfielder Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and sophomore attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) each netted four goals to lead Washington and Lee to a 17-7 victory over Bridgewater in ODAC women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Va.

Taffe also recorded two assists to total six points on the day, while Bogart added one assist.

BC (7-3, 3-3) opened the scoring at the 26:19 mark as junior midfielder Liz Pietrzyk (Charlottesville, Va./ Albemarle) found the net off an assist from freshman defender Sandy Lagana (Sykesville, Md./South Carroll).

The Generals tied the contest on an unassisted goal by Taffe with 24 minutes to play in the first half and took a 2-1 lead on a goal by senior attacker Liz Borges (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) just 28 seconds later.

Senior midfielder Kate Blaney (Churchville, Md./John Carroll) tied the game again at the 20:38 mark with an unassisted score, but that was as close as BC would get.

Washington and Lee (9-2, 6-0) ripped off 10 unanswered goals in the final 16:11 of the first half to take a 12-2 lead after 30 minutes of action. Bogart tallied three goals during the 10-goal stretch, while Borges notched a pair of goals. The Generals out-shot Bridgewater, 27-3, and held the nation's top ranked offense to just two goals in the first half. The two teams each traded five goals in the second half as W&L cruised to the 10-goal triumph.

Borges ended the day with three goals, while junior midfielder Courtenay Fisher (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) added two goals and two assists.

Blaney led the way for Bridgewater with four goals, while Pietrzyk also netted two scores.

W&L returns to action on Tuesday afternoon as it hosts Hollins at 4:30 pm.
