HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Junior catcher Todd Gosselink (Austin, Texas/St. Stephens) hit a two-run homerun and freshman rightfielder Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) added a solo shot as Washington and Lee defeated Eastern Mennonite, 4-2, in ODAC baseball action on Sunday afternoon.
The game was part of a double-header, however, due to rain, the second game of the double-dip will be made up on Monday at 3:30 pm.
The Generals (18-5, 7-4) struck first as junior third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) doubled to leftfield, scoring freshman leftfielder Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett). The score would remain 1-0 until GosselinkÕs two-run blast in the fourth inning.
Eastern Mennonite (13-10-1, 6-3) cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth frame as Casey Severs drove in Erik Kratz with a single. Mulhern then provided the Generals with another insurance run with his solo homer in the top of the seventh. Tavis Law scored the gameÕs final run in the bottom of the seventh as Barney Quick drove him home with a double.
Senior righthander David Sigler (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) went the distance for the Generals, scattering nine hits and surrendering two earned runs. He struck out four while walking only one batter. He is now 5-1 on the season.
Chad Thornton went the distance for EMU, allowing the four runs on four hits. He struck out three and walked three to fall to 3-3 on the season.
Following Monday's single game against the Royals, W&L will return to action on Tuesday as it hosts Southern Virginia at 3:00 pm. The Generals defeated SVC, 7-0, on Mar. 7.
