W&L Falls to No. 8 Mary Washington, 17-6

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Junior midfielder Briana Gervat scored seven first-half goals to lead No. 8 Mary Washington past No. 15 Washington and Lee, 17-6, in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va.

The Eagles led 4-2 midway through the first half, however, Gervat tallied two goals and Bridget Gelman and Diana Tisinger scored to give MWC (4-2) a 8-2 lead. The Generals cut the lead to 8-3, but Mary Washington scored six unanswered goals and led 16-4 at halftime. Washington and Lee (6-2) outscored the Eagles, 2-1, in the second half.

The Generals were led by junior attacker Emily Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal) and freshman midfielder Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle), who each tallied two goals on the day. Junior midfielder Julie Carskadon (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and senior attacker Liz Borges (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) each added one goal for the Generals. Freshman goalkeeper Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) made 14 saves in the net for W&L.

The Generals will return to action on Thursday afternoon as they host Oberlin College in a non-conference game at 4:00 pm.
