W&L Sweeps ODAC Doubleheader From Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. -- Washington and Lee swept a doubleheader from Randolph-Macon in ODAC baseball action on Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Va. Senior pitcher David Sigler (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) tossed his fifth complete game of the season to lead the Generals to a 5-4 win in game one, while sophomore shortstop/pitcher Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) allowed one earned run in seven innings to give W&L a 5-3 victory in the nightcap.

In game one, junior third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) broke a 4-4 tie when he singled home freshman centerfielder Austin Allain (Weston, Mass./Weston) in the top of the seventh with two outs to score the eventual game-winning run.

W&L (16-4, 6-3) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as sophomore second baseman Todd Johnson (Windsor Locks, Conn./Windsor Locks) singled to score freshman rightfielder Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville). The Yellow Jackets tied the game in the third stanza as centerfielder Kevin O'Connor scored on a balk.

W&L broke open the game in the fourth inning as Johnson and junior catcher Todd Gosselink (Austin, Texas/St. Stephens) produced RBI doubles and Hanson scored Johnson on a sacrifice fly. However, R-MC (4-7, 1-5) tied the game in the sixth inning with three runs, setting up Kozora's heroics in the seventh.

Johnson led W&L by going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Sigler allowed three earned runs in seven innings to improve to 4-1 on the season.

In game two, the Generals took a 2-0 lead in the third inning as Kozora tripled home Hanson and sophomore leftfielder Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett). W&L increased the lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning as sophomore first baseman Brian Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Palm Harbor) scored Hanson and Allain with a bases-loaded single.

Randolph-Macon scored two runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth to trim the lead to 4-3, but Kagey added an insurance run when he scored on an error in the top of the seventh inning.

Kozora and Gladysz knocked in two runs for the Generals, while Hanson went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Hanson also allowed one earned run on 10 hits to pick up his first victory of the season.

The Generals will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Bridgewater for an ODAC contest at 3:00 pm.
