W&L Claims Fifth-Straight Win with 11-7 Victory over Roanoke

SALEM, Va. -- Sophomore attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) tallied four goals and one assist and senior attacker Ellen Ritsch (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) scored three first-half goals and added one assist to help lead No. 15 Washington and Lee to an 11-7 victory over Roanoke in ODAC women's lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon in Salem, Va.

RC (3-2, 2-2) scored the game's first two goals as Kylie Wernert found the net just 10 seconds into the game and then scored again at the 26:43 mark to give the Maroons a 2-0 lead.

W&L fought back with four unanswered goals as junior attacker Emily Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal), senior attacker Liz Borges (Winchester, Mass./Winchester), Ritsch and Bogart notched goals and W&L led 4-2 with 9:15 to play in the first half.

Sarah Cook brought Roanoke to within one goal 42 seconds later, but W&L ended the half on another 4-0 run led by two goals from Ritsch to give the Generals a 8-3 lead at halftime.

Bogart would add two goals in the second half and freshman goalie Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) held the Maroons to four second-half goals. Perini made 11 saves on the day for Washington and Lee (6-1, 5-0).

W&L was led by Bogart, Ritsch and Borges, who scored two goals and added two assists.

The Generals will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Fredericksburg, Va., to take on Mary Washington College at 2:00 pm.
