Bridgewater Defeats W&L In ODAC Baseball Action

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Bridgewater took advantage of seven W&L errors and blasted three home runs to defeat Washington and Lee, 18-2, in ODAC baseball action on Thursday afternoon.

Bridgewater (10-6, 3-0) got on the board in the second inning as sophomore first baseman J.R. Estes (Sterling, Va./Broad Run) led off with a home run to left field.

The Eagles increased their lead to 3-0 in the third inning as senior catcher Chip Woody (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) hit a two-run homer to left center field. BC added two more runs in the fourth inning and then took a 10-0 lead with five runs in the fifth stanza capped by a three-run shot by senior shortstop Matt Clatterbuck (Front Royal, Va./Warren County).

Estes went 3-for-6 on the day with three RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore leftfielder Ryan McQueen (Purcellville, Va./Loudon County) went 2-for-5 and drove in four runs. Freshman pitcher Dan Proctor (Mechanicsburg, Pa./East Pennsboro) improved to 3-1 on the season, allowing one earned run on five hits in six innings of work.

Junior third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) led Washington and Lee (14-4, 4-3) by going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Freshman hurler Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett) took the loss for W&L after allowing 10 runs (four earned) on nine hits over five innings.

The Generals will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Ashland, Va., to take on Randolph-Macon in an ODAC doubleheader at 12:00 pm.
