LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee split an ODAC doubleheader with Hampden-Sydney on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field. The Tigers won game one in 10 innings, 6-5, before the Generals stormed back to take game two, 7-0.
In game one, junior first baseman Michael Duncan (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) scored the game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning to lead Hampden-Sydney to the 6-5 win. Starting pitcher senior David Sigler (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) overthrew first base on a sacrifice attempt by centerfielder Charles Gregory (Richmond, Va./Varina) to allow Duncan to score from first base.
The Generals got on the board first in the third inning as sophomore second baseman Todd Johnson (Windsor Locks, Conn./Windsor Locks) scored on a wild pitch and junior third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) doubled home two runs to give W&L (12-3, 4-2) a 3-0 lead.
