W&L Wins Fourth Straight With 3-1 Victory Over Villa Julie, 3-1

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman pitcher Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) allowed four hits and one earned run in seven innings to pick up his second victory of the year as Washington and Lee defeated Villa Julie, 3-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Smith Field.

The Generals (5-1) got on the board in the bottom of the first as sophomore first baseman Brian Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) singled to drive in sophomore leftfielder Bobby Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) and W&L led 1-0.

Washington and Lee tacked on another run in the third inning as sophomore designated hitter Kyle Droppers (Dallas, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) singled home junior third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg).

The Mustangs (0-1) closed the score to 2-1 in the fifth stanza as junior shortstop Casey Davis singled to score centerfielder Josh Sammons. However, in the bottom of the fifth, W&L added an insurance run as Gladysz again singled home Littlehale.

Freshman hurler Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) closed out the final two innings for the Generals to pick up the save. Gladysz, Littlehale and Kozora all picked up two hits on the day.

W&L will open its ODAC slate on Saturday afternoon as it travels to Emory, Va., for a doubleheader against Emory & Henry at 12:00 pm.
