Bridgewater Survives Scare From Washington & Lee, 63-52

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Bridgewater broke open a 42-39 second-half lead with 11:12 remaining, using a 9-0 run to hand Washington and Lee its sixth-consecutive loss, 63-52, in ODAC women's basketball action on Friday evening in Lexington, Va.

W&L (5-11, 4-9) started out hot from the field, jumping out to a 20-9 lead over the game's first 11:35. Junior forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) tallied 10 points during the stretch.

However, the Eagles (14-2, 11-1) answered right back with a 18-2 stretch to end the half with a five-point lead at 27-22. Freshman guard Sarah Octavec (Pylesville, Md./John Carroll) led the Bridgewater charge with seven straight points off the bench.

The Generals cut the lead to as many as three in the second half, but could get no closer. Senior guard Amanda Osborn (Burlington Flats, N.Y./Edmeston Central) buried three treys and scored 12 second-half points to hold back the Generals.

Bridgewater posted four players in double-digits led by Amanda Osborn, who finished with 19 points and sister, Angela Osborn (Burlington Flats, N.Y./Edmeston Central), who netted 13 points and grabbed five rebounds. Junior forward Sarah Hagood (Shawsville, Va./Shawsville) added 12 points, while Octavec chipped in with 11.

Mentz led W&L with a team-high 19 points and pulled down eight boards. Junior center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) accumulated her 11th double-double of the season by adding 14 points and 12 rebounds. Junior guard Carter Thomas (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) tied a Washington and Lee record with 10 assists.

Washington and Lee will return to action tomorrow afternoon as it hosts Villa Julie College in a non-conference matchup at 2:00 pm.
