NORFOLK, Va. -- Freshman attacker Laura Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) amassed four goals and one assist in leading the Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 15-9 victory over Virginia Wesleyan in Norfolk on Saturday afternoon.
Despite playing in a downpour throughout nearly the entire contest, W&L (7-3, 6-1 ODAC) was able to put together one of its' strongest offensive efforts of the season. The Generals jumped out to a 6-4 halftime advantage before connecting for nine second-half tallies en route to the six-goal margin of victory. Aside from Wilson, W&L was led by senior attacker Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Univ. Liggett) with three goals and three assists. Other players amassing noteworthy offensive statistics for the Generals included freshman Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) with two goals and two assists, along with sophomores Emily Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal) and Courtenay Fisher (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest), each with two goals. Senior Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) made eight saves in goal for W&L.
VWC (8-7, 4-3 ODAC) was led by Meagan Dicave with three goals and two assists and Megan Koons with three goals and one assist. W&L will return to action on Wednesday, April 19, when it travels to Bridgewater College for a 4:00 pm matchup.
