LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) scored four goals and assisted on another in leading Washington and Lee to a 13-8 victory over Roanoke College in ODAC women's lacrosse action.
Sophomore midfielder Julie Carskadon (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) netted the first of her two goals with just 5:32 gone-by to put the Generals ahead 1-0. Junior midfielder Ellen Ritsch (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and Bogart followed with goals of their own increasing the Generals' lead to 3-0. Sophomore midfielder Leslie Hunt (Baltimore, Md./Towson) got the Maroons on the board with 14:22 remaining in the first, narrowing the margin to 3-1. From there, the teams battled into halftime with W&L (4-3, 3-1 ODAC) ahead by a score of 7-4.
Bogart took control of the contest at the onset of the second half, scoring each of the Generals' first two goals. Senior goalkeeper Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) helped make the W&L lead stand, as she stopped 12 Roanoke shots on the day. Roanoke senior netminder Debbie Apazidis (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) made ten saves in goal for the Maroons (3-3, 1-2 ODAC).
Aside from Bogart, W&L was led in scoring by Carskadon and senior attacker Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Univ. Liggett), each with two goals and one assist. Roanoke was led in scoring by junior midfielder Kylie Wernert (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich), who amassed four goals and one assist.
W&L will break for exams before returning to action on Sunday, April 9, when it plays host to Guilford College at 1:00 pm.
