LEXINGTON, Va. -- The fifth-ranked Mary Washington women's lacrosse team handed Washington and Lee its first home loss of the season on Saturday, downing the Generals by a 16-6 margin.

W&L (3-3) opened the scoring when freshman Laura Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) found the net just 9:25 into the first half. The Generals increased the lead when freshman Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Julie Carskadon (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) at the 18:34 mark. From there, the Eagles would notch five unanswered goals en route to a 6-3 halftime advantage.

MWC (6-0) caught fire in the second half, erupting for 10 goals. W&L hung close for the majority of the half, trailing only 11-6 with 11:35 to go, but the Eagles scored five straight goals in the final 10:12 for the double-digit margin of victory.

For the game, the Eagles outshot W&L by a count of 39-27. W&L senior Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) tallied 15 saves in goal. MWC was led in scoring by senior midfielder Diane Grimm, who notched four goals. The Eagles spread the wealth as five players tallied two goals each in the contest. W&L was led by Bogart and senior attacker Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Univ. Liggett), each of whom had two goals. Riddle also added an assist.

W&L will return to action on Tuesday, March 28, when it plays host to Roanoke College at 3:00 pm.
