Littlehale Leads W&L Baseball Squad In Sweep Of R-Mc

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman leftfielder Bobby Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) banged out six hits, scored four runs, and amassed five RBI in leading the Washington and Lee baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Randolph-Macon College on Saturday afternoon. The Generals won the opener by an 8-4 margin before claiming the nightcap by a score of 5-1.

W&L (13-10, 3-6 ODAC)) received a tremendous pitching effort from Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) in the opener, as the freshman went the distance allowing only six hits while earning his sixth victory of the season against just one loss. The Generals and Yellow Jackets were tied at 2-2 entering the bottom of the second when senior shortstop David Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) led off the inning with his first home run of the season, putting W&L ahead to stay at 3-2. Littlehale led the Generals at the plate with a 4-for-4 effort, including three doubles. Sophomore catcher Todd Gosselink (Austin, Texas/St. Stephen's Episcopal) added three hits in four at-bats. Tripp Boyd led R-MC (7-11, 2-5 ODAC) with a 2-for-3 effort, including one RBI and two runs scored.

In the nightcap, W&L senior lefthander Chris Stakem (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) earned his second victory of the season, hurling a complete-game four-hitter while allowing just one earned run. Littlehale once again provided the offensive clout, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

The Generals will return to action on Tuesday, March 23, when they host Bridgewater in a 3:00 pm ODAC contest.
