Guilford Takes Doubleheader From Generals

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Guilford College baseball team handed Washington and Lee University a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference losses on Sunday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader by scores of 7-3 and 12-0 on the "New" Smith Field.

In the opener, junior designated hitter Eric Pelletier (S. Deerfield, Mass,./North Mt. Hermon) and sophomore catcher Nick Black (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) combined to total four hits in six at-bats to lead the Quakers (12-5, 2-0 ODAC). Black knocked home four runs, while Pelletier scored three and drove in two, including a towering solo home-run in the sixth frame. Senior righthander K.C. Chambers (Greensboro, N.C./Western Guilford) hurled 6 2/3 innings for his fourth win of the season. Senior Tim Lucason (Oneco, Conn./Plainfield) recorded the final out of the game for his first save. W&L (7-8, 0-4 ODAC) was paced by sophomore catcher Todd Gosselink (Austin, Texas/St. Stephens Episcopal) and freshman designated hitter Brian Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep), each of whom tallied two hits in three at-bats.

The Quakers jumped on top quickly to open the nightcap, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning off of Generals' starter Chris Stakem (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady). Senior Chad Coward (Siler City, N.C./Jordan-Matthews) held the Generals at bay throughout the game, allowing only two hits in going the distance for his third win of the year against just one loss.

W&L will return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 14, in a non-conference affair with the Mary Washington Eagles. First pitch is set for 3:00 pm in Lexington.
