ASHLAND, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets by a score of 13-8 on Saturday afternoon.
R-MC (4-0, 3-0 ODAC) jumped to a 5-1 halftime lead behind four goals from senior Carrie Winkler. The Yellow Jackets extended the lead in the second half, outscoring the Generals 8-7 for the five-goal victory. For the game, Winkler tallied seven goals to lead R-MC, while W&L was spurred by senior Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, Mich./University Liggett), sophomore Emily Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal), and freshman Laura Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster), each of whom connected for two goals.
The Yellow Jackets outshot Washington and Lee 33-21 on the game. Senior goalkeeper Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) made 13 saves to keep the Generals (2-1, 1-1 ODAC) in the game.
W&L will return to action on March 15, when it hosts Lynchburg College in a 4:00 pm matchup on the Liberty Hall Fields.
