Emory Downs W&L In Baseball Opener

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Emory University scored five first-inning runs en route to a 15-2 victory over Washington and Lee in the season-opener for both squads.

Junior Ryan Donegan pitched five innings of two-hit ball while striking out nine Generals for the win. Left-fielder Kyle Foster led the homestanding Eagles (1-0) with three hits. Todd Rasmussen, Ted Karniewicz, Allen Rigell, and David VanWinkle tallied two hits apiece.

Senior first-baseman Russell Wrenn (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) provided the lone offensive highlight for W&L (0-1), clouting a two-run homer in the fifth inning for the Generals' only runs of the game. Junior David Sigler (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) took the loss, surrendering four earned runs in three-plus innings of work.

W&L will return to action tomorrow as it faces Oglethorpe University in a 3:30 pm contest.
