LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior guard Ansley Miller (Athens, Ga./Athens Academy) hit 6-of-7 three-point attempts en route to a game-high 20 points to lead Washington and Lee to an 85-40 win over Hollins on Thursday evening in Roanoke.
Miller's total leaves her just two points shy of becoming the second women's basketball player in W&L history to score 1,000 career points.
W&L (6-2, 4-1) poured it on from the start, cruising to a 43-19 halftime advantage. The Generals shot 55 percent from the floor and 92 percent from the foul line in posting 85 points, just two points shy of tying the W&L record for points in a game.
Sophomore forward Sara Schmidt (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) tallied 14 points and sophomore guard Carter Thomas (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) notched 13 points. Sophomore forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) scored 12 points and claimed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Hollins (1-5, 0-4) shot just 24 percent from the floor and was led by Mandy Nichols with 13 points.
Washington and Lee will return to the court on Saturday as it hosts arch-rival Roanoke in a 2:00 pm contest.
