HAMDPEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Senior catcher E.J. Murphy (Glenside, Pa./ Chestnut Hill Academy) smashed a three run home run, his fourth of the season, to give the Washington and Lee (17-9, 8-6 ODAC) baseball team a 3-0 lead en route to a 12-3 victory at Hampden-Sydney (7-17, 4-10 ODAC) on Wednesday afternoon.
In front 3-1, the Generals exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning as the first eight batters of the inning reached base, extending the lead to 10-1 en route to the nine-run victory.
Junior pitcher Chris Stakem (Oklahoma City, Okla./ Casady) earned his second win of the season, allowing just seven hits and one earned run in seven innings. He also went 3-for-4 from the plate, while stealing two bases. Murphy went 2-for-5 with five RBI and the home run. Junior shortstop David Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./ Pace Academy) continued his hot pace with a 3-for-5 day with three RBI.
