Generals Split At Randy-Mac, 1-3 And 9-5

ASHLAND, Va. -- Senior catcher E.J. Murphy (Glenside, Pa./ Chestnut Hill Academy) and junior right fielder Christian Batcheller (Stuart, Va./ Patrick Henry) hit back-to-back home runs leading the W&L baseball team to a 9-5 victory in the second half of a doubleheader at Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets took the first game by a 3-1 count.

In the first game, W&LUs junior left-handed pitcher Chris Stakem (Oklahoma City, Okla./ Casady) gave up only three runs, however Randolph-Macon's righty Chad Edwards gave up only one run, leading the Yellow Jackets (12-12, 5-6 ODAC) to the 3-1 victory.

In the second game, the Generals (15-9, 6-6 ODAC) took a 5-0 lead behind the back-to-back home runs in the third inning. R-MC came storming back with four runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh to send the game to extra innings. In the ninth, W&L scored four runs to build a 9-5 lead that senior reliever Al Dominick (St. Louis, Mo./ MICDS) held in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sophomore reliever Will Ogilvie (Houston, Tex./ Memorial) picked up the win. Senior starter Bob Weston (Columbia, S.C./ Woodberry Forest) left the game after five innings with a 5-0 lead.

Offensively, the Generals were led by Batcheller, who went 3-for-4 with a double and home run. Murphy went 2-for-4 on the day.
