Generals Make Royal Comeback At EMU; Win 7-6 In 11 Innings

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team (14-8, 5-5 ODAC) trailed at Eastern Mennonite (14-15-1, 8-8 ODAC) by four runs on two occasions early in the game, but rallied to defeat the Royals, 7-6 in 11 innings.

Eastern Mennonite scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning and one in the bottom of the third to take an early 5-1 lead. The Generals then rallied with one run in the fourth inning and three in the fifth to tie the game at 5-5. EMU regained the lead, 6-5 with a run in the bottom the seventh inning. The Generals tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the ninth inning when sophomore right fielder Christian Batcheller (Stuart, Va./ Patrick Henry) scored on a single right field by freshman third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./ Glenelg). Batcheller scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 11th inning to give the Generals the lead for good at 7-6.

Sophomore starting pitcher David Sigler (Strasburg, Pa./ Lampeter-Strasburg) pitched all eleven innings for the Generals, giving up only two runs, no walks and striking out 13 Royals. He is now 6-1 on the season. EMU's reliever Ryan Strite took the loss. He is now 6-2 on the season.

The Generals were led offensively by Kozora, who went 4-for-6 with a triple and two RBI. Batcheller went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored, and an RBI. Junior shortstop David Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./ Pace Academy) chipped in with a 3-for-4 day and a double.
