Eagles Rally For Six Runs In The Eighth, Defeat W&L, 10-3

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Bridgewater exploded for sixth runs in the eighth inning to extend a 4-3 lead into a 10-3 victory against Washington and Lee in ODAC baseball action at Jopson Field on Tuesday afternoon. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for W&L.

The game was tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning when BridgewaterUs designated hitter Richie Anderson knocked in catcher Chip Woody with a double to give the Eagles (14-14, 8-5 ODAC) a 4-3 lead. The Generals (13-8, 4-5 ODAC) left the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning before Bridgewater scored six runs in the bottom of the inning.

W&L starting pitcher senior Bob Weston (Columbia, S.C./ Woodberry Forest) left the game after five inning with the game tied 3-3. He gave up only four hits and struck out five. Reliever Bill Christ (0-1) (Barnavled, N.Y./ Holland Patent Central) took the loss. Bridgewater starter Fionn Fitzgerald got the win, allowing seven hits and two earned runs, while striking out 11.

The Generals were led offensively by senior second baseman Patrick Hall (Houston, Texas/ Episcopal), who went 2-for-4 with a double.
