LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior designated hitter E.J. Murphy (Glenside, Pa./ Chestnut Hill Academy) tied a Washington and Lee baseball record with two home runs in one game, leading the Generals (6-3) to a 13-2 thrashing of Washington and Jefferson (1-5) in the second game of a doubleheader at Smith Field. W&L won the first game, also in convincing fashion, 17-2.
In that first game, the Generals led 6-2, before exploding for 11 runs in the sixth inning en route to their largest offensive output of the season. Senior second baseman Patrick Hall (Houston, Texas) led the charge by going 3-for-3 with three RBI, a double, and a stolen base. Junior center fielder Chis Stakem (Oklahoma City, Okla./ Casady) also went 3-for-3. He added two RBI, a triple, and a stolen base. Junior left fielder Schuyler Marshall (Dallas, Texas/ Highland Park) went 3-for-4 with three RBIUs and a double. Senior pitcher Bob Weston (Columbia, S.C./ Woodberry Forest) ran his record to 4-0, allowing four hits. Sophomore reliever Bill Christ (Barneveld, N.Y./ Holland Pantent Central) earned the save with three scoreless innings pitched.
In second game, Murphy's two three-run home runs scored the first six W&L runs en route to the 13-2 victory. Junior first baseman Russell Wrenn (Baltimore, Md./ Gilman) led the offense, going 2-for-3 with three RBI with a double. Sophomore pitcher David Sigler (Strasburg, Pa./ Lampeter-Strasburg) went the distance allowing only seven hits to run his record to 2-1. The game was called due to freezing temperatures after 4.5 innings.
