EMORY, Va. -- Washington and Lee scraped together two runs in two games, but it was good enough to split a doubleheader at Emory and Henry in ODAC baseball action on Saturday afternoon. E&H won the first game, 1-0; and the Generals took the night cap, 2-1.
In the first game. E&H junior pitcher Brandon Matheny shutout the Generals by allowing just four hits and striking out 10. He is now 2-2 on the season. W&L sophomore pitcher Chris Stakem (Oklahoma City. Okla./ Casady) took the loss, but gave up only one run, one walk, and seven hits. He is now 1-2 on the season.
Emory and Henry scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, when catcher Jason Austin knocked in third baseman Paul Sipos with a double.
In the second game, W&L senior pitcher Bob Weston (Columbia, S.C./ Woodberry Forest) threw a two-hit shutout, while striking out eight Wasps in leading the Generals to a 2-1 victory.
After E&H scored in the bottom of the first inning, Stakem singled home junior left fielder Schuyler Marshall (Dallas, Texas/ Highland Park) to tie the game in the second inning. The Generals took the lead for good when junior right fielder Christian Batcheller (Stuart, Va./ Patrick Henry) slammed a solo home run in the third inning.
The Wasps' David Lambert (1-1) took the loss.
