LEXINGTON, Va. -- Bridgewater surrendered 10 runs in the final two innings, but was able to hold off Washington and Lee, 20-19, in ODAC baseball action on Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles (7-6, 3-0) built a 17-5 lead after 6.5 innings, but the Generals (6-6, 0-3) fought back to cut the lead to one run in the ninth inning. W&L had the tying run on third base when freshman third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) grounded to short to end the game.
The Generals were led by junior right fielder Christian Batcheller (Stuart, Va./Patrick County), who went 5-for-6 with two home runs and three RBI and senior second baseman Patrick Hall (Houston, Texas/Episcopal), who was 3-for-6 with a home run and five RBI.
Bridgewater was paced by freshman center fielder Brad Sipe (Port Republic, Va./Turner Ashby), who was 5-for-6 with 4 RBI and senior third baseman Mike Padgett (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County), who was 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI.
Bridgewater junior right hander Todd Campbell (Elkton, Va./Spotswood) upped his record to 2-1 on the season, while senior right hander Bob Weston (Cloumbia, S.C./Woodberry Forest) dropped to 4-2 on the season.
