Generals Drop A Pair At Va Wesleyan, 7-2 And 15-1

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team (6-5, 0-2 ODAC) saw its four-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon as Virginia Wesleyan (7-0, 5-0 ODAC) swept the Generals by scores of 7-2 and 15-1 in a matinee doubleheader at VWC.

In the first game, the Blue Marlins led 5-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning but added a run in the fifth inning and one in the sixth inning to coast to the 7-2 win. W&L scored in the third inning, when junior first baseman Russell Wrenn (Baltimore, Md./ Gilman) scored on a double by junior designated hitter Andy Thompson (Philadelphia, Pa./ William Penn Charter). In the fifth inning junior third baseman Schuyler Marshall (Dallas, Texas) sacrificed home junior center fielder Chris Stakem (Oklahoma City, Okla./ Casady).

W&L senior pitcher Bob Weston (Columbia, S.C./ Woodberry Forest) lost for the first time this season, giving up all seven runs on ten hits in six innings. He is now 4-1 on the season.

In the second game, the Blue Marlins exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning to stroll to the 15-1 victory. Stakem (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up seven runs in 3.1 innings.
