LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 14th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team is set to square off against No. 10 Trinity (Texas) in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Atlanta on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
POD INFO:
This weekend's five-team pod, hosted on the campus of Emory University, will begin play on Friday in a match featuring Asbury and N.C. Wesleyan. No. 7 Emory will play the winner of that match on Saturday, along with the Generals/Tigers match that same day. Sunday's regional final will be between the two remaining teams with a spot in the national quarterfinals in Chattanooga, Tenn., on the line.
TEAM INFO:
The Generals hold a 20-2 overall record entering the national tournament and received the ODAC's automatic bid into the championship with a 4-0 win over Averett in Sunday's conference title match. It marked the Generals' 23rd consecutive and 35th overall ODAC championship, and this season will be W&L's 31st straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The Tigers have only lost one team match this season and have won 17, while collecting the Southern Athletic Association championship. They will be appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the 28th time in program history.
On the other side of the pod, the Asbury Eagles will be making their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) championship match last weekend. The Battling Bishops are in the national tournament for a third consecutive season after capturing the USA South Conference title. The Eagles and Battling Bishops also matched up in their NCAA-opening match last season at W&L, with N.C. Wesleyan getting the better of the Eagles, 4-1.
The Emory Eagles round out the pod as the only at-large team out of the five in Atlanta. They earned their bid into the tournament after defeating Carnegie Mellon in the University Athletic Association (UAA) third-place match, 4-1. Emory joined Asbury and N.C. Wesleyan in Lexington last year and defeated the Battling Bishops in Saturday's second round match, 4-0.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
This weekend's tennis action will feature plenty of individual star power, as five different players from three schools were announced as qualifiers on Wednesday for the either or both the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships.
Emory saw Emily Kantrovitz and Izzy Antanavicius make the singles draw, with Kantrovitz and Iris Berman qualifying for the doubles championship. Kantrovitz owns a 17-6 singles record this season, including 13-2 from No. 1 singles, while Antanavicius is 22-5 overall this season and 10-3 at No. 3. In doubles, Kantrovitz and Berman have led the way for the Eagles in 2025-26 with an 18-10 overall record and 11-8 at No. 1.
Senior
Lauren Long qualified for the national singles championship for a fourth consecutive season from W&L, and Eva Kovachev is a singles qualifier for the Tigers. Long is 12-3 in singles this season, all from No. 1, while Kovachev owns a 9-4 record at No. 1 singles this season and 10-4 overall.
Two additional sets of doubles teams could also appear in the championship doubles draw, but are currently listed as alternates. Emory's Antanavicius and Yanire Marte are the third alternate doubles duo with a 13-3 record together this season, while Trinty's Rosabella Andrade and Trinity Levy are the sixth alternate and hold a 14-3 record.
