Lauren Long '26 - 2026 NCAA Division III Singles Preview

W&L Women's Tennis 2026 NCAA Singles Tournament Preview - Lauren Long

5/21/2026 4:56:00 PM

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The championship bracket of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles Tournament was revealed on Thursday, and Washington and Lee senior Lauren Long drew NYU's Victoria Wang in a first round matchup.

Long, ranked 27th in the nation in the most recent ITA national poll, will face-off against Wang on Friday not before 10:30 a.m. in the NCAA Division III Singles Championship first round. The championship schedule will feature first and second round matches on Friday, followed by the quarterfinals on Saturday, semifinals on Sunday and national championship match on Monday.

LONG vs. WANG QUICK HITTERS:
The four-time ODAC Player of the Year and four-time NCAA Singles Championship qualifier, Long enters the weekend with a 14-4 record in singles play this season, with all her matches being played from No. 1 in dual-match format. Long, who will make her third career appearance in the national singles tournament on Friday, holds a career 11-5 record in tournament format. That includes a 2-2 mark in the NCAA Singles Championship, with both wins securing All-America status in her first two seasons.

Wang, who enters the singles championship unranked in the latest ITA poll, brings a 16-9 record into the weekend, including 7-4 in tournament play. Wang was mostly featured in the No. 2 singles slot for the Violets in dual-match play this season, going 6-3 there but also adding a 3-2 record at No. 1. A Second Team All-UAA (No. 2 Singles) in 2026 and Honorable Mention last season, Wang will be making her first career appearance in the national tournament on Friday.

WHO WOULD BE NEXT:
The winner of the Long/Wang match will advance to Friday afternoon's second-round contest against the winner from the Emily Kantrovitz/Agnes Guggenheim match. Kantrovitz has enjoyed a decorated career at Emory University, earning three All-America accolades in doubles and two more in singles, plus 2025 UAA MVP and 2026 ITA Atlantic South Region Senior Player of the Year honors. The No. 8-ranked singles player in Division III, Kantrovitz is 17-7 in singles and was the runner-up at this season's ITA Southeast Regional Singles Championship.

Guggenheim, ranked 20th in the most recent ITA poll, is 18-8 this season in singles play for Wesleyan (Conn.), with a 10-5 record at No. 2 and a 5-1 mark at No. 1. The first-year from Venice, Calif., earned Rookie of the Year honors from the NESCAC this season, in addition to First Team Singles and Doubles citations.

HEAD-TO-HEAD HISTORY:
Should Long advance to Friday's second round, her matchup will be a familiar one regardless of who wins between Kantrovitz and Guggenheim. Long and Kantrovitz have faced each other four times at the collegiate level, all coming in the last two seasons. They have split those four contests evenly, with Long getting the better of Kantrovitz (6-4, 6-0) in their most recent matchup on May 10 in the Round of 16 of the team championship.

Despite only one all-time matchup between Long and Guggenheim, that one match was played earlier this week when the Generals faced Guggenheim's Cardinals in the national quarterfinals. Guggenheim had the upper hand in that match, 6-4, 6-3.
