No. 12 Women's Tennis wins at Bridgewater and at home against Guilford

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va. / LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 12 Washington and Lee women's tennis team completed its ODAC schedule on Tuesday with a 7-0 win at Bridgewater and a 6-1 win at home against Guilford.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (AT BRIDGEWATER – W, 7-0):
  • The Generals (15-1, 9-0 ODAC) opened against the Eagles with a clean sweep in doubles. Seniors Lauren Long and Grace Lorenz paired at No. 1, seniors Annie Jennings and Riho Iijima were at No. 2, and senior Jordan Kach and first-year Lulu Koziol completed the doubles lineup at No. 3.
  • W&L continued its dominance in singles play, as Long (1), Jennings (4), Kach (5) and Koziol (6) all won 6-0, 6-0 to handily put the match in the win column.
  • Lorenz was in the No. 2 spot, with Iijima at No. 3. Lorenz posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory and Iijima won 6-1, 6-0 to round out the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED (VS. GUILFORD – W, 6-1):
  • W&L (16-1, 10-0 ODAC) dropped just one game out of 19 played against the Quakers (8-5, 4-3 ODAC) in doubles. Sophomores Sarah Donnelly and Allie Murrell (1) and sophomore Greer Webb and first-year Margarette Berdy (2) both won 6-0. Junior Haley Stoltz and sophomore Mary Kate Kahl were 6-1 victors at No. 3.
  • The Generals went on to post three 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles. Kahl did not drop a game at No. 4, Berdy was perfect at No. 2 and sophomore Jackie Daynovsky swept Amy Soto Salgado at No. 6.
  • The fourth and clinching point came from Stoltz at No. 5, as she downed Brooke Tsuei 6-0, 6-1. First-year Sarah Ladd rounded out the W&L team points with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3 over Chandler Sizemore.
  • The Quakers got their lone point of the match at No. 1 singles. Donnelly erased a five-game deficit in the first set to tie things up, before Carolina Dirk claimed the opening set, 7-5. With the second set tied at five games all, Donnelly retired due to injury.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • With the win, W&L finished the ODAC slate with a perfect 10-0 record, which marks the 36th-consecutive season in which the Generals have not lost a regular season conference match. Overall, the Generals have won 353 straight matches against ODAC foes in regular season match play.
  • Now that the conference season is wrapped up, the Generals will, once again, be the top seed for the ODAC Championship tournament, which gets underway Wednesday, April 29.
UP NEXT:
The Generals will be off from match play for two weeks before returning to action on Thursday, April 23, at No. 7 Babson.
