No. 13 Generals roll to ODAC Quarterfinal sweep

LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 13 Washington and Lee women's tennis team earned its first victory of the 2026 ODAC Championship on Wednesday, a 4-0 victory over eighth-seeded Randolph in the quarterfinals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Generals (18-2) got wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles for the opening point, dropping just one game in the process. Junior Haley Stoltz and sophomore Allie Murrell blanked Mikayla Smith and Natalie Thompson, before seniors Lauren Long and Grace Lorenz won, 6-1, at No. 1
  • The three W&L players to post wins in singles combined to lose two games to the WildCats (9-8). Long got the Generals on the board first, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1, with Murrell matching that final at No. 3.
  • Lorenz completed the 4-0 win with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2. First-year Margarette Berdy was nearing completion herself at No. 4, as she led Sophia Cahue, 6-1, 5-1, while also being one point away from securing a win of her own.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Lorenz improved to 14-4 overall in singles with her win, including 5-3 at No. 2. She is now tied with Berdy for the most singles wins on the team.
  • Long's victory was her 11th this season. Long also appeared in the newest ITA national singles rankings at No. 48, while moving up two spots to No. 8 in the Atlantic South region.
UP NEXT:
The Generals advance to the semifinal round of the ODAC Championship on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. They will host the winner of the Guilford/Lynchburg quarterfinal which is being played on Thursday.
