No. 13 Generals punch ticket to ODAC championship match

LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 13 Washington and Lee women's tennis team cruised to a 4-0 win on Saturday against fourth-seeded Lynchburg in the ODAC Semifinals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Generals (19-2) dropped just seven games total on their way to clinching a spot in Sunday's conference championship match.
  • All three doubles teams for W&L logged wins, as each finished within seconds of each other. The Generals did not drop a game in doubles play.
  • The hosts also clinched their three singles matches in quick succession, with sophomore Allie Murrell getting the first win, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4.
  • Senior Lauren Long defeated Isadora Lima, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1, before first-year Margarette Berdy wrapped up a shutout of Megan Tinsley at No. 5.
  • Two other W&L players were one game away from clinching wins of their own when the match ended. Senior Grace Lorenz led Kayla Kasiorek 6-2, 5-0 at No. 2 and first-year Sarah Ladd was up 6-1, 5-0 at No. 6.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Berdy secured her team-best 15th singles win of the season on Saturday. She did so by improving to 6-2 at No. 5.
  • Long moved into a tie for the third-most singles wins on the team (12), tying with Ladd and two behind Lorenz. Long and Lorenz also moved atop the team standings in doubles wins among duos. They are now 6-2 overall, all from No. 1.
UP NEXT:
The Generals will host second-seeded Averett in Sunday's championship contest at 1:00 p.m. in Lexington.
