Baseball Falls to No. 10 Bridgewater in ODAC Finale

BRIDGEWATER, Va.  - Playing their final Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game of the season, the Washington and Lee University baseball team fell 13-3 (7 Inn.) to No. 10 Bridgewater College on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a pair of scoreless innings, the Eagles (29-8, 11-7 ODAC) broke the game open in the bottom of the third, scoring eight runs on five hits and an error. A double, single, and a walk loaded the bases before Trent Holland and TJ Johnson drove in two runs on back-to-back singles. Bridgewater's third run scored on a passed ball before Ashton Smith singled to drive in Holland and make it 4-0. Two walks and a hit by pitch forced in two more runs, while a fielding error and another passed ball plated two additional runs to give the Eagles an 8-0 lead.
  • Jackson Rogish led off the top of the fourth with a double down the left-field line before Andrew Thornton singled to put runners on the corners. Rogish scored the Generals' (17-12-1, 10-9-1 ODAC) first run on a fielder's choice.
  • The Blue and White cut the deficit to six in the fifth as Nathan DeWitte recorded a two-out single before Alex Caywood drew a walk. Rogish delivered again with an RBI single to left field to make it 8-2.
  • Bridgewater responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Stavros doubled to lead off and later scored on a fielding error. Zack Chadwell added a single before Chandler Valbak launched a home run over the left-field fence to extend the lead to 11-2.
  • The Eagles added two more in the sixth after two walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases. Jakson Walter singled to left-center to drive in a pair and make it 13-2.
  • W&L plated one run in the top of the seventh as DeWitte and A. Caywood drew walks before Rogish drove in DeWitte with a single up the middle. However, Hunter Covill recorded a strikeout to end the game and secure a 13-3 victory for Bridgewater.
