No. 15 Women's Tennis continues undefeated start at Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. – The No. 15 Washington and Lee women's tennis team reached the half-way point in its ODAC schedule for the season, leaving Randolph-Macon College with 7-0 win over the Yellow Jackets on Wednesday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Riho Iijima and sophomore Mary Kate Kahl posted the first doubles win of the day at No. 3 by a score of 6-0, before the team of first-years Margarette Berdy and Sarah Ladd claimed the opening point, 6-2, at No. 1.
  • Senior Annie Jennings and sophomore Greer Webb completed the doubles lineup, and they were victorious, 6-3 at No. 2.
  • Webb got the Generals (8-0, 5-0 ODAC) on the board in singles with her second 6-0, 6-0 win of the spring at No. 5. Kahl followed that up with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6, before Jennings clinched the match, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4.
  • Iijima posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3, Ladd was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 2, and Berdy rounded out the team shutout with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • With their nine combined wins on the day, the Generals improved to 46-2 in singles play in dual format, including 30-0 in conference play. In doubles, they are now 26-1 overall and 15-0 against ODAC teams.
  • The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its most recent Top 40 on Wednesday, and the Generals moved up from No. 19 and into a tie for No. 15 with Tufts. The ITA is expected to release its first team regional rankings on April 1.

The Generals will get back on the courts next Thursday, March 12, with a 4:00 p.m. start at Averett.
