ATLANTA – The No. 15 Washington and Lee women's tennis team took its first loss of the season on Saturday at the hands of No. 5 Emory, 7-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Despite recording no team points, the Generals (11-1) did pick up one win on the day at the No. 1 doubles position. Seniors Lauren Long and Grace Lorenz paired up for the first time this season and took down the nationally third-ranked duo of Emily Kantrovitz and Iris Berman, 6-4.
- The Eagles (7-4) claimed a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles and had Izzy Antanavicius and Yanire Marte edge out sophomores Allie Murrell and Sarah Donnelly, 7-6 (3), at No. 2 for the doubles point.
- Five of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets. Only Murrell at No. 4 managed to play into a third, where Marte outlasted her, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (8).
- Donnelly took seven games off Antanavicius at No. 3, while Long won six games against Kantrovitz at No. 1. The Eagles' top-ranked players, Antanavicius is No. 6 in the national rankings while Kantrovitz, the No. 1-rated player for much of the 2025 spring, is currently ranked 15th.
- Berman (2), Rachel Hernandez (5) and Holyn Karp (6) all cruised for Emory to round out the matches. That trio of players combined to drop just six games in their six total sets played.
