ATLANTA – The 15th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team bounced back from its first loss of the season on Saturday for a 5-2 win against No. 37 Colby on Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Generals (12-1) swept doubles play to start things off. Seniors Lauren Long and Grace Lorenz (1) and sophomores Sarah Donnelly and Allie Murrell (2) both won by 6-3 scores. First-year Margarette Berdy and sophomore Greer Webb pulled out a 6-4 win at No. 3.
- W&L proceeded to win four of the six singles matches to close out the win, with three straight-set wins. Long (6-1, 7-6 [0]), Lorenz (6-2, 6-3) and Murrell (6-3, 6-1) were the straight-set victors at 1, 2 and 4, respectively.
- Donnelly got off to a rocky start at No. 3 singles, dropping her first set 0-6. She fired back, however, with a 6-0 win in the second set, before winning the third, 6-3.
- The Mules (1-4) got their two team points from the No. 5 and 6 singles positions. Tina Barrow won at 5 by a 6-1, 6-1 score, while Isabella Suk posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Lorenz's two wins put her on the cusp of 100 career wins across singles and doubles play. Her next win in either format will put her into triple digits.
