LEXINGTON, Va. -.The No. 4/5 Washington and Lee University women's basketball lit up the scoreboard in Holekamp Gym on Saturday afternoon, scoring the most points in program history as they defeated Hollins University 118-51.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Generals (23-0, 14-0 ODAC) jumped out to an early lead, opening the game on an 8-0 run to force an early timeout from Hollins (14-9, 6-8 ODAC). Hollins cut the deficit to two with six straight points of their own, but back-to-back three-pointers from Sam Collins sparked a 20-4 run to close the first quarter. Elka Prechel, Megan Zimmerman, and Quinn McGuinness also connected from beyond the arc during the surge.
- The Blue and White opened the second quarter with a 20-0 run to build a 48-10 advantage. Following a layup from Abby Kingery, Zou Raine and Mary Schleusner added layups, while McGuinness knocked down another three-pointer to extend the lead to 43. W&L carried a 62-14 lead into halftime after closing the quarter on a 7-2 run.
- The offense continued to roll out of the break as McGuinness buried another shot from long range before Schleusner and Sarah Zimmerman added back-to-back layups to push the lead to 55. Hollins trimmed the margin with five unanswered points, but the Generals responded with an 11-2 run to go back up 80-23. W&L closed the third quarter on an 8-4 stretch, highlighted by three-pointers from Emily Straughn and Arden Alvarez.
- Both teams traded baskets early in the fourth quarter until the Blue and White rattled off six straight points behind buckets from McGuinness, Straughn, and Riley Bryant. Alvarez capped the afternoon with another three-pointer to secure the 118-51 victory.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Seven Generals scored in double figures, led by Mary Schleusner with 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field while grabbing 20 rebounds. She also added three assists and three blocks. Quinn McGuinness finished with 13 points, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc, and dished out a game- and career-high 10 assists in the win.
- Riley Bryant added 12 points while pulling down seven rebounds. Megan Zimmerman and Sarah Zimmerman each scored 11 points, with Megan posting a career-high in scoring. Sarah also led the team with a career-high five steals. Zou Raine and Sam Collins rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points apiece.
- Sarah Morales led Hollins with 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting while adding three assists and two steals. Jacorra Russell paced the rebounding effort with seven boards, along with one block and one steal.
TEAM STATS
- The Generals extended their winning streak to 23 games with the victory this afternoon, securing their 13th straight win inside Holekamp Gym—the second-longest home winning streak in program history.
- W&L shot 52.5 percent (42-of-80) from the field, including a game-high 57.9 percent (11-of-19) in the fourth quarter. The Generals also connected on 12 of their 23 three-point attempts, their highest total of the season, and knocked down 75.9 percent of their free throws.
- The Blue and White dominated the glass, out rebounding Hollins by 37, 60-23, while committing 11 fewer turnovers. W&L scored 54 points in the paint and added 29 fast-break points. The bench contributed 54 points, and the Generals scored 42 points off Hollins' 24 turnovers.
- W&L set a new single-game program record with 118 points, surpassing the previous mark of 111 set by the 2008–09 squad. The 67-point victory ranks as the third-largest margin of victory in program history.
NOTEWORTHY POINTS
- Mary Schleusner is now the all-time blocks leader in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) after registering three this afternoon. She surpassed Laurie Miller (EMU '98) with 332 career blocks.
- Schleusner also moved up to No. 2 all-time in NCAA history in career rebounds, passing Wanda Ford (Drake '86) with 1,834.
- With her start today, Elka Prechel became the program leader in games played with 114. Schleusner now ranks second all-time with 113 career games played, while Quinn McGuinness appeared in her 110th career contest.
- McGuinness' 10 assists today were the fifth most in program history, tying Megan Horn '22.

- The fourth-ranked Generals are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 18 for their final road game of the regular season as they travel to Bridgewater College for a 7 p.m. tip off.
