Women's Tennis opens fall against UMW, Longwood at CNU Invite

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's tennis team opened up its fall slate on Saturday at the Christopher Newport Invite, playing in mock dual format against Mary Washington and Longwood.
 
HIGHLIGHTS FROM DAY 1:
  • The Generals took 9-of-12 matches against the Eagles to start the day, including 3-of-4 in doubles and 6-of-8 in singles. Seniors Isabella Custard and Annie Jennings highlighted doubles with a 6-0 win.
  • First-year Margarette Berdy paired with sophomore Mary Kate Kahl for a 6-3 win and first-year Sarah Ladd teamed up with sophomore Allie Murrell for a 6-4 victory against UMW opponents.
  • Berdy, Custard, Jennings and Ladd each added a singles win each against the Eagles, along with seniors Grace Lorenz and Riho Iijima. Lorenz (6-4, 6-3), Ladd (6-1, 6-2) and Jennings (6-4, 6-3) all won in straight sets, while Berdy (6-3, 5-7, 1-0 [5]) and Iijima (4-6, 6-4, 1-0 [5]) needed three sets.
  • Despite the Generals dropping all their matches against Longwood in the afternoon, senior Jordan Kach took the first set, 6-4, before falling to Nicole Di Bisceglia in three sets. Ladd also kept it close against Feline van Eijkelenburg in a 7-5, 7-5 loss.
 
UP NEXT:
The Generals will be back on CNU's courts on Sunday against the host Captains at 9:00 a.m. Only individual results will be recorded as the teams will continue in mock dual play.
