FOREST, Va. -- Washington and Lee University continued its storied tradition of excellence in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) with a commanding performance during the 2024–25 academic year, claiming two of the league's top athletic honors. The Generals captured the prestigious Dan Wooldridge Overall Champions Cup and shattered records en route to winning the ODAC Women's Commissioner's Cup.
W&L's performance marked its 29th overall and 23rd consecutive Wooldridge Cup, reinforcing the institution's dominance across men's and women's sports. The Generals also collected their 25th Women's Cup overall—and 22nd straight—setting a new ODAC record in the process. W&L posted a 0.953 rating in the Women's Cup standings, eclipsing its own 2021–22 benchmark of 0.941.
2024-25 BY THE NUMBERS
Washington and Lee University's 2024–25 athletic year has been marked by exceptional achievement across all three seasons. W&L compiled an impressive 228-91-7 overall record (.710), with particularly dominant showings in women's sports, which posted a remarkable 133-31-1 mark (.809). The Generals were equally strong within the ODAC, earning a 112-35-4 conference record (.755), while defending home turf with a 115-40-2 home record (.739).
Team and individual accolades reflect the Generals' broad-based success. W&L student-athletes garnered 203 All-ODAC citations, including 94 First Team selections, while the university claimed 13 ODAC Player of the Year honors, 10 Coach of the Year awards, seven Rookie of the Year nods, and eight Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognitions. The program secured 12 ODAC Championships across the year and continued to shine on the regional and national stages with 88 All-Region citations, three Region Players of the Year, three Region Coaches of the Year, and three Regional Championships—all in the fall.
Nationally, W&L made 18 NCAA Tournament appearances (five in fall, five in winter, and eight in spring), highlighted by a Final Four run from the men's soccer program. The Generals also earned 36 All-American honors and celebrated two CSC Academic All-Americans.
CUP SCORING
The Generals earned 130.5 out of a possible 137.0 points in women's sports to achieve their all-time high mark. W&L garnered maximum points in nine of the ODAC's 13 women's sports: cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, indoor and outdoor track & field, and volleyball. This dominant showing outpaced all other conference institutions and set the highest rating in the history of any of the ODAC's three Commissioner's Cups.
Lynchburg University finished second in the Women's Cup with a 0.755 rating, followed by Randolph-Macon (0.750), Shenandoah (0.643), and Virginia Wesleyan (0.642).
In the Overall Cup standings, Washington and Lee led all conference members with 237.0 of a possible 270.0 points, resulting in a 0.878 rating. That effort bested Lynchburg (0.788) and Randolph-Macon (0.705), who rounded out the top three. Roanoke (0.664) and Bridgewater (0.630) followed closely behind.
W&L placed second in the Men's Cup standings with a 0.801 rating, thanks to perfect scores in men's lacrosse, swimming, and tennis. Lynchburg topped the men's chart at 0.827, with full points in six sports, while Roanoke (0.720) and Randolph-Macon (0.656) rounded out the top four.
Since the inception of the Wooldridge Cup in 1994–95, Washington and Lee has claimed 29 of the 31 Overall Cups. The Generals have also won 25 of 33 Women's Cups and 23 of 33 Men's Cups, cementing W&L's position as the gold standard of ODAC athletics. Roanoke has accounted for the remaining eight women's titles, while Lynchburg has captured seven men's cups. Bridgewater, Hampden-Sydney, and Virginia Wesleyan have each won once on the men's side.
